Artist Biography For Diana Krall


Diana Krall Was Born Into A Musical Family In Nanaimo British Columbia Canada On November 16 1964 . She Began Learning The Piano At The Age Of Four. In High School She Started Playing In A Small Jazz Group. At The Age Of Fifteen She Started Playing Regularly In Several Nanaimo Restaurants. She Also Spent Some Time In Toronto Studying With Canadian Jazz Great Don Thompson Bass/Piano And With The Support Of The Canada Council For The Arts She Moved To The U.S To Continue Studies And Develop Her Career. Her Playing Attracted The Attention Of Bass Player Ray Brown Who Brought Her Into Touch With Influential Teachers And Producers. At The Age Of Seventeen She Won A Scholarship From The Vancouver Jazz Festival To Study At The Berklee College Of Music In Boston. After Three Terms She Moved To Los Angeles To Study With Jimmy Rowles With Whom She Also Began To Sing. In 1990 Krall Relocated To New York. She Is Married To British Musician Elvis Costello.

Live In Paris Released In 2002 Was The Seventh Album And First-Ever Live Concert Recording From Grammy-Winning Canadian Jazz Pianist And Vocalist Diana Krall. It Was Recorded At The Paris Olympia Theatre Between November 29 - December 2 The Previous Year. In The Album Krall And Her Band Perform Songs From Her Earlier Studio Recordings Such As East Of The Sun And West Of The Moon And Devil May Care. They Are Joined By Special Guests John Pisano Acoustic Guitar And Paulinho Da Costa Percussion For Several Tracks Including 'S Wonderful George And Ira Gershwin . The Orchestre Symphonique Européen Conducted By Alan Broadbent With Special Guest Conductor Claus Ogerman Is Featured On The Upbeat Let's Fall In Love And A Haunting Interpretation Of I've Got You Under My Skin. Featured On The Album Are Live Renditions Of The Look Of Love The Title Track From Krall’s Platinum-Certified Verve Release Her First Recorded Version Of The Joni Mitchell-Penned A Case Of You And Fly Me To The Moon A Song Not Included On The Previously-Released DVD "Diana Krall – Live In Paris" Eagle Eye/Pioneer Entertainment . Also On This Recording Is A Special Bonus Studio Track - A Rendition Of Billy Joel’s "Just The Way You Are" Featuring Michael Brecker's Beautiful Tenor Sax Solo.
