Frogtoon Music - Song Info: No I in Threesome

“No I In Threesome” Is A Promotional Single For Interpol’s Our Love To Admire. Although Threesome Usually Has A Sexual Connotation This Song Is Certainly Not About Sex.
The Song Seems To Tell A Story About A Couple That Has Been Through Many Things Together. Time Has Taken Its Toll On Them And Now They Are Growing Apart. Their Relationship Is No Longer What It Used To Be And The Narrator Is Considering To Give Something New A Try. Cheating Finding Someone New The Third Person In This Threesome. The Title Of The Song Is A Pun And Also A Metaphor. Literally There Is No “I” In “Threesome”. As A Metaphor The Narrator Cheating On His Counterpart Implies That The Relationship Is No Longer The Union Of Two Individuals But A Love Triangle. Calling This A Threesome Is A Sarcastic Way Of Looking At Cheating As In The Sexual Act Of A Threeway You Expect The Three Parts To Agree Which Is Not The Case When You Cheat. The “nostalgic” Vibe Of The Song Is Reinforced In The Music Video Where We See A Gloomy Paul Banks Performing In An Old Rustic House Falling To Pieces Which Could Also Be A Metaphor For A Relationship Falling Apart. This Is What Sam Said In An Interview With Performermag.Com “Quite Soon In The Process Of Making This Record We Realized We Had Chemistry As A 3 Piece. Before When We Recorded There Was Always Some Kind Of Tension Or Disagreement And Ego Always Reared Its Ugly Head. And Often That’s What Makes A Good Record. Now We’re Just A Better Band—that’s All There Is To It.“
