Kiana Ledé Brown Is An American Singer Songwriter Actress And Pianist Currently Based In Los Angeles California. She Starred As Zoe Vaughn On The Second Season Of MTV's Horror Series Scream. As An Infant Brown Began To Sing The Alphabet Immediately After Learning It And Began Performing At The Age Of 3 Upon Receiving Her First Karaoke Machine. As A Child Brown Began To Regularly Perform In School Plays And Beauty Pageants While Taking Voice Lessons And Piano Study. She Was Also Involved With 'Janoskian's Member Luke Brooks. In 2011 Brown's Mother Discovered Kidz Bop A Website For Kids To Upload And Share Videos Of Themselves Performing. She Uploaded A Video Of Brown Performing An Original Number On The Piano With Brown Selected As A Finalist. She’s One Of My Favorite Writers. After I Heard The Song I Said “I Fucking Love It ” And Literally Got On The Mic The Same Day And Recorded It. We Reworked A Couple Of The Lyrics A Little Bit Just So It Suited Me A Little Bit More And Was A Little More Tailored To Me. I Think There’s A Certain Sad Sultriness That The Song Has That Is Really Nice For Girls Or Guys Who Are Coming Out Of A Relationship And They Weren’t Necessarily Finished With The Person They Were Seeing. They Still Kinda Miss Them But They’re Also On The Like “Ooh I Kinda Have This Little Bit Of Freedom Now And I’m Riding With It And I Feel Good But I’m Also Kinda Sad.” I Think That’s Like The Best Emotion To Feel When You’re Going Through A Breakup. ““Ex,” for me, is something that we all go through when we go through a breakup, just not wanting to be a stranger to the person. It’s crazy to me how somebody can mean everything to you and be everything, and then, all of a sudden, it’s like you guys don’t even know each other. So not wanting that feeling and not wanting that to happen is what “Ex” means to me.
Someone on my team heard the song and I heard it, and I just knew I fit the project perfectly. It was a song that I didn’t really have yet, but it sounded like it was coming from me, and those are the only songs that I ever cut, so I was just excited to cut it and now I work with Chelsea Lena all the time. She’s one of my favorite writers. After I heard the song, I said, “I fucking love it,” and literally got on the mic the same day and recorded it. We reworked a couple of the lyrics a little bit just so it suited me a little bit more and was a little more tailored to me.
I think there’s a certain sad sultriness that the song has that is really nice for girls or guys who are coming out of a relationship and they weren’t necessarily finished with the person they were seeing. They still kinda miss them, but they’re also on the like, “Ooh, I kinda have this little bit of freedom now and I’m riding with it and I feel good, but I’m also kinda sad.” I think that’s like the best emotion to feel when you’re going through a breakup. It’s like the weirdest time, but it’s also kinda fun, and I think the song really brings that out, so I want people to feel that and be able to sing along to it and kind of sexy dance to it a little bit.“
