Blue Riddim Band were a Kansas City-based reggae band formed in the late 70's and early 80's. The band started as a blues/jazz band but were influenced by Jamaican music. The band were not your typical reggae or ska band for a few reasons. First, they didn't look the part, as the band members were largely caucasian. Second, the band members were strong musicians with jazz and R&B backgrounds. The high point of their career came in 1982 when they played at the famous Sunsplash concert in Jamaica.

As the story goes, the sun was just rising at 5am when they took the stage as the first American band to ever play Sunsplash. The crowd went wild for them and you can hear the crowd chanting for the "blue eyed reggae" on their "Alive in Jamaica" album. They later did a 12" record with English Beat leader Ranking Roger, who toasted over their song "Nancy Reagan". Unfortunately, it seems that their works have not moved to CD or digital versions. If you can find it, give it a listen.
