Shabala is a project created under the label BOOYA Music and produced by TAO Music Productions in Hamburg. Booya Music, based in Hamburg, was a record label that was active on the German music scene during the 1990s. Founded by experienced music producers and talent managers, Booya Music quickly became a hotspot for emerging artists and music productions. Shabala recorded only one self-titled full album in 1998, which was promoted as a fusion of "Africa's Voodoo rhythms combined with modern house & dance grooves from Europe and America." All music was composed and programmed by German producers and musicians Achim Sobotta and Achim Oppermann, the latter of whom is the creator of TAO Music Productions and a member of the German Rock band Lake (3) from 1979-1988. Main vocal pieces were provided by Trinidadian singer Anthony Flaverny and American Freddy Strong with Miriam Stockley, Mae Mckenna (both from London) and Alex Prinz (Hamburg) as a chorus.
