Анастасија (transliterated Anastasia or Anastasija) is a group from Skopje, Macedonia, founded in 1990. Анастасија is renowned as one of the most successful groups in its native country. Their music is a unique blend combining Byzantine elements, Eastern Orthodox church music, and a rich gamut of ethnic Macedonian rhythms. They play acoustic instruments native to Macedonia such as the kaval (flute), gajda (bagpipes), tapan (drum), and also infuse modern technology (computers, samplers, synthesizers). Анастасија have made numerous music scores for films, theater performances and TV programs. Their soundtrack for the movie "Before the Rain" on the Polygram label has sold thousands of copies worldwide. In 1996, Анастасија wrote the music for the theatre performance "Bachanallia" which had its European tour with remarkable international success. In 1997, Анастасија released a single-CD with two songs, "Face" and "Burn", on the Third Ear Music label, as an announcement of their new album. In 1997, they released a CD with previously unreleased tracks called "Melourgia" for the Greek label "Libra Music". In 1998, they released their latest album "Nocturnal" for Third Ear Music (Macedonia and ex-Yugoslavia) and internationally on Libra Music. The album was recorded in studio "Tra La La" and mixed in Athens, Greece, with the producer Coti K.
