Jung Joon Young (Hangul: 정준영; born February 21st, 1989) is a South Korean singer best known for finishing in the top three of talent show Superstar K4. Before appearing on the show he released a solo extened play titled Rock Trip in 2010. He is a member of the South Korean band Drug Restaurant. In mid-2013, Jung Joon Young finally decided to sign with CJ E&M after receiving many offers from numerous entertainment companies. After signing with CJ E&M, Jung Joon Young released his first debut single "병이에요 (Spotless Mind)" with two versions of the music video (N version/S version) on Oct 01, 2013 and immediately made an impact on the country’s charts. Just an hour after release, “Spotless Mind” nabbed the top spot on Mnet, Bugs and Soribada. On October 10, 2013, Jung Joon Young officially made his debut by releasing his first mini album that contained his debut title song "이별 10분 전" along with five other songs. Burning Sun Scandal On March 11, 2019, it was alleged that in 2015 and 2016, Jung had secretly filmed his own sexual encounters with at least 10 women, then shared the videos with friends in chat groups. The allegations surfaced during a police investigation into Seungri for allegedly providing prostitution services, and resulted in Jung being investigated as well. This would only be the beginning of the case that would later be known as the Burning Sun Scandal (or ‘Burning Sun Gate’). The following day, Jung retired from the entertainment industry, admitting to crimes that he had "filmed women without their consent and shared it in a chatroom". He apologized to the multiple women he filmed, as well as his fans, and pledged to cooperate with police. On March 21 2019, Jung was arrested over allegations that he illegally shared sexually explicit videos of women taken without their knowledge or consent through a social media chatroom on eleven occasions. On April 19, 2019, a woman came forward to SBS, claiming that five men including Jung had gang r**ed her in March 2016 and then shared an audio file and photos of the incident in a group chat. On May 10, 2019, Jung pleaded guilty to all eleven cases of secretly filming and sharing the videos of himself having sex with women in a chatroom, and he sought to come to legal settlements with the victims. Jung and Choi Jong-hoon were also under investigation for allegedly being involved in the gang r*** of a woman in 2016. On November 29, 2019, Jung was sentenced to six years (later reduced to five years) in prison and a mandatory education program on sexual crimes for sex abuse and illegal filming. In November 2020, his personal Instagram account was deleted by the social network itself, on the grounds that it has a policy of deactivating accounts of convicted sex offenders. On 19 March 2024, Jung was released from a prison in Mokpo, South Jeolla upon completion of his prison sentence.
