Born and raised in Australia on bush music, classical and pop, the members of Appalachian Heaven Stringband take their sustenance from the deep well of Anglo-Celtic ballads and tunes with African-American rhythms in the hard scrabble counties of West Virginia and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina in the 18th and 19th centuries. This 12 year old Melbourne String Band has released 5 CD's. The band’s new CD “Hold Your Lying Tongue” was released at National Folk Festival Canberra, Easter 2017 Appalachian Heaven Stringband is Australia's finest tribute to the old-time mountain music of Appalachia and brilliant exponents of modern Americana and original Australian compositions. They are well known for their tight, driving arrangements of tunes and songs from the southern Appalachian USA mountains. The Stringband is the precursor of Bluegrass, featuring fiddle, banjo and vocal harmonies transposed from the Celtic fiddle traditions, infused with African-American cultures and rural sensibilities. Appalachian mountain music played with gusto and authenticity, learnt directly from the masters during regular visits to the USA. From sensitive and driving fiddle tunes, dance tunes with curly toes, to cheeky songs and disarmingly touching ballads, Appalachian Heaven Stringband delight audiences young and young-at-heart. The band loves to be participants in community music events and share their skills and knowledge through workshops (clawhammer banjo, old time fiddle or autoharp) and open jam sessions. Band Members: Ian Alexander - clawhammer banjo, vocals Sally Taylor - fiddle, vocals Kimberley Wheeler - bass, vocals Graeme Fletcher - guitar, autoharp, vocals Claire Alleway - cello Website: www.ahstringband.com.au Youtube channel videos: https://goo.gl/ind0ck Facebook: https://goo.gl/Z7sbC7
