Classification is everything. Right or wrong, human nature revolves around being able to divide things into groups. However every now and then something phenomenal occurs when someone has the ability to blur the color lines and transcend all classification boundaries. A chosen few just seem to shine a little brighter, in essence putting them in a class of their own. Since the inception of his career, in the early 90s, Mr. Kee has consistently had the ability to break every barrier placed upon him and has found an exception to every rule. He probably couldnt even tell you why. Hes just being Kee, doing what comes natural to him. Simply put, why do stars shine? Well because theyre stars of course. They shine because thats what stars do, right?*** Born Juan C. Oliva, to San Franciscos Mission District, Mr. Kee recognized that his passion for music was his driving force. A future of hard work, high expectations and relentless determination has paved the way thus far and continues to fuel his lifelong quest of working with what he love, music.*** At age 17, Kee started his first record label, Sticky Style Records, following the blueprints laid by Independent Bay Area Gurus, E40 & JT The Bigga Figga and released his debut EP, Livin On the Ultimate High. Selling half through distribution and the other half through self-determination. Mr. Kees name began buzzing around the Bay Area, creating a buzz in the Bay Area and Central Valley.*** Continuing to build himself a name with the release of his second independent album, From The Womb To The Tomb, under the group moniker I.T.P.G. Mr. Kee's reputation for his dynamic vocal presence coupled with his in-depth story telling abilities, caught the ears of local record labels, which eventually led to his signing with the compilation powerhouse, Black-N-Brown Entertainment, becoming their first and premier solo artist.*** His debut LP, 14 Kt. Dreams, sound scanned 13,000 units, featured Mr. Kee alongside some of the Bay Area's elite, including B-Legit, 11/5, C-Bo, South Park Mexican and Baby Bash. Not one to disappoint, Kee easily outshined every one of his guests, displaying the necessary creative talent, skills, and finesse to establish himself as a significant figure in the Bay Area and one of the most respected Latin Rappers.*** Following 14 Kt. Dreams with the release of F.E. The Saga Begins, Kee continued to spread like an epidemic, appearing on over 100 albums in the Bay Area and Down South. All the while, prepping the nation to unleash The Latin Plague; spawning hits like Tequilla Bodyshots, Nasty Mind, Hydro and It's On You, in which fans found Mr. Kee displaying more than the 'typical' Bay Area album. Showing his versatility and further proving he is more than capable and deserving of taking his talent nationwide and joining the illustrious ranks of the very few Latin rappers to transcend all boundaries.*** At this point one has to wonder why Kee hasnt gone nationwide like comparable Latin Rappers that have gone nationwide. Artists that hes worked side by side with, like Baby Bash and South Park Mexican. Its not that hes not marketable, in fact, the ladies love him and with his million-dollar smile and sparkle in his eye his image is definitely one that could grace a billboard. Maybe its that hes destined to have a career that carries him through a lifetime and not just a momentary success. It could be that the man upstairs knew better than to give him success at a young age, when he probably would have squandered it away like many you artists do. With Kees never give up approach and his almost unbelievable drive to succeed, its very possible that the nation may have the pleasure of knowing what Mr. Kee is all about. Hell tell himself, hes made it this far and hes not giving up now. VH-1 this is Driven Story just waiting to happen. You heard it here first.*** The year 2004 saw the release of Kees next album, The One, under his own record label, Uprise Music Group, followed by his Doin Too Much mixtape. Having his own record label finally gave him the freedom to begin recruiting his own talent and thats exactly what he did in forming The Soldiers of Fortune, a selective battalion of raw Bay Area talentRappers, R&B artists and producers hand picked by Mr. Kee himself. Wasting no time he took the opportunity to showcase the talent of his artists in his next mixtape, Bay Area 51 - where you can find his radio hit, Cali Clap. Seeing the camaraderie between Kee and his battalion of soldierz, you might think they were family. Their stage presence and the energy they bring to a show is undeniable and the party never really starts until Kee and his Soldierz enter the building.*** The summer of 2005 was a significant time Kee and for Bay Area Underground Rap Music. Nearly a decade and half after he began this journey, San Francisco hosted the 1st annual BARS Awards. Kee received nomination for best new underground artist along with his album The One being nominated for Best New Underground Album. For the first time Kee and The Bay Rap Scene received long over due public recognition for their contributions to Rap Music.*** The tide continued to turn for the better as Kee joined forces with an unlikely, silent business partner and they began planning the opening of their own recording studio. Within four months, they had the grand opening to Mr. Kees Gas Chamber Digital Recording Studio in December 2005. Time is money and having to watch the clock in the studio has been the only obstacle Kee has had to face. With the freedom to create, produce and engineer at his leisure, the possibilities are endless. Hes ready for the world-but is the world ready for him?
