Daniel Saylor, under his alias Windows 98の, made something of a small name for himself in 2014 with the release of the インターネット (eng: The Internet) EP on Virtual Disk Systems - harnessing the 90's-computer inspired hi-tech beats style of the likes of Blank Banshee and Vaperror to create a short work of music that was an unexpected and pleasant surprise in the vaportrap sub-genre of vaporwave. Following this, Saylor would go onto release what could be considered his first legitimate studio-length effort, これは魂のために (eng: This One Is For the Soul), in 2015. This dense, ethereal work of vaportrap and ambient music saw him depart from his prior influences and embrace a sound that incorporated elements of post-industrial, glitch and drone music. Since this album, Saylor's output under the Windows 98の moniker hasn't seen much activity, with his last release being The Safe Mode Sessions in December 2016. Saylor still continues to release under his name, albeit material slightly less associated with vaportrap and more with nu jazz and footwork.
