Malachi Richard Thompson 1949-2006 Was An American Jazz Trumpeter Who Described His Style - A Blend Of Bop And Free Jazz - As 'freebop'. Inspired To Start Playing The Trumpet After Attending A Performance By Count Basie And His Big Band When He Was 11 Years Old Thompson Went On To Work With Lester Bowie Avant-Garde / Free Jazz Musicians Such As Archie Shepp And His Group Africa Brass Which Took Its Inspiration From The New Orleans Tradition Of Brass Bands. He Died In 2006 Of Cancer.
