Matteo Sommacal Was Born In Rome 18 November 1977.
He Was Introduced To Ancient Music And To The Study Of Recorder Flûte À Bec By G. Casularo. He Continued His Musical Studies With M. Volonterio School Of Ancient Music Genève J. Tyson Court Dance Company Of New York S. Bragetti Conservatorio Della Svizzera Italiana Lugano . As A Recorder Player He Performed In Several Concerts Recordings And Collaborations Both As A Soloist And With Renaissance And Baroque Musical Ensembles Like "Fabula Ensemble" "Musica Antiqua" And "Corale Polifonica Psalterium". He Founded With The Lute Player Luca Marconato The Duo "La Mandragola" 2000 . From 1999 To 2001 He Was Teacher Of Musical Theory And Recorder In The Music School L'Arpa D`Erba - Echos Progetto Musica Roma Directed By E. Casularo. He Started Studying Piano And Slowly Moved His Interests To Composition Attending The Lectures Of Carmelo Piccolo Conservatorio Di Pesaro . Studying Harmony Direction Music Theory And Composition A Deep Change In Matteo Sommacal"s Musical Interests Occurred And He Started Focusing On The New Streams Contemporary Music Minimal And Post-Minimal Experiences.
He Participated To The Writing Of The Artistic Manifesto GEuM 2001-2003 And With A Group Of Young Musicians Interested In The Contemporary Repertoire He Founded The Ensemble "Piccola Accademia Degli Specchi" 2000/2001 .
As A Composer Works By Him Were Played In Several Events And Live Concerts Festival Di Musica Antica Of Urbino CasaDellaMusica Of Trieste Scuola Di Alto Perfezionamento Pianistico "A. Rubinstein" Of Roma Etc . In 2002 He Received The Commission Of Composing The Original Sound Track For The Ruggero Lancia's Musical Movie "Candidamente". Presented By The Clarinet Player Director And Music Producer Davide Casali He Started Collaborating With The "Postaja Topolove/Stazione Di Topolò" International Festival With A Project Of Circular Listening 2004 With A Choral Composition On Words By The Slovenian Poet Srečko Kosovel 2005 And With The Scene Music For The Monologue Play "Riflessioni Di Passaggio Sopra Il Cimitero Ebraico Di Topolò" 2006 Written And Performed By Davide Casali.
In 2005 He Received The Commission Of A Choral Composition On Words By The Italian Writer Renato Serra By The "Corale Nuovo Accordo" Of Trieste. In The Same Year The Percussion Class At The Conservatorio "Tartini" In Trieste Directed By M Fabian Perez-Tedesco Celebrated The Opening Of The Music Season Of The Conservatory With A Score Written By Him September 2005 . In The City Of Trieste The Ensemble "Piccola Accademia Degli Specchi" Performed Compositions Of His For The Concerts At The Orto Lapidario August 2004 And For The 5th Internation Festival Of Contemporary Music "Luigi Nono" November 2004 . In The City Of Rome The Same Ensemble Performed Compositions Of His For The "European Festival Of Music" June 2005 .
Together With The Piano Player And Music Director Giovanni Rosati He Co-Produced The CD "MinimaMachta" Which Contains Recordings Of Compositions By Him P. Glass And W. Mertens Performed By The "Piccola Accademia Degli Specchi" August 2004 . "MinimaMachta" Distributed By Zedde Editore Torino Ranked 9th In Echoes Top 25 For September 2007. Matteo Sommacal Wrote The Music For The Documentary "La Resistenza Nella Provincia Di Roma" On The Partisan War In The Province Of Rome Directed By Michele Imperio 2006 And The Original Sound Track Of A Short Experimental Movie By Fulvio Spagnoli 2006 . Other Compositions Were Used For The Soundtrack Of The Documentary "MacchiaMadre" By Simona Marziani 2007 And For The Promotional Video "me*" Of The European Marine Equipment Council 2008 .
As A Composer And Artistic Director Of The "Piccola Accademia Degli Specchi" He Frequently Appears In Italian Radio Programs To Speak About His Compositions And More Generally About Contemporary Music Radio RAI UNO Radio Rock Roma Nova Radio Città Futura Nuova Spazio Radio Etc . At The Moment He Is Working On A Great Composition For Choir And Chamber Orchestra Commissioned By The Community Of The "San Paolo Alla Regola" Church In Rome Originally Intended To Celebrate Saint Paul And The End Of The Restoration Works Of The Church. Together With His Music Interests He Also Carried On Scientifical Studies. He Obtained The MSc In Physics At Università Di Roma "La Sapienza" In 2002 And The PhD In Mathematical Physics At The Internation School For Advanced Studies In Trieste In 2005. At The Moment He Has A Research Fellowship At The Mathematics Department Of The Università Degli Studi Di Perugia. The "Piccola Accademia Degli Specchi" Was Founded Around The End Of The Year 2000 In Rome Italy And It Is Specialized In The Performance Of Contemporary Classical Music With Particular Attention To The So-Called Minimalist And Post-Minimalist Experiences.
