Formed in the summer of 2009, Friend Faction is a group of two amateur music lovers, Andrew Whelan and Brendan Mehu. After discussing the many merits of music and their love of it, these two decided to strap on their guitars and fire up their DS Synths and give it a go. After three sessions, the second of which featured the incorruptible Andrew Ottman (of Andrew Dual 2 fame) on his computer with midi effects. A total of around 20 tracks were made from these three sessions

A total of around 20 tracks were made from these three sessions, and they were compiled into the EP "What's the Smatter?," a collection of covers and a free form improvisational DS Synth Jam, and "Friend Faction," an album of about 14 songs, half of which were interludes. For their Sophomore Endeavors, the band, which had practiced their craft over the span of 9 months, reconvenced with Kelsey Thornton to create the as of yet unnamed "Untitled Album," and issued an EP called "Mikels" as a teaser to the upcoming album. Mikels is a Six Track EP, totaling around 16 minutes. The EP features 4 numbered songs, all of which are instrumental and follow a particular theme. "MC Hemu" is a track from Brendan Mehu's mind, a Rap delievered for over a minute and touching over various topics. The last song is another iprovistaional freeform DS Synth Jam, and at over 8 minutes long it is over half the length of the EP. Given the new and changing nature of Friend Faction's Music, who knows what the new album could hold? And the new album, which crowned the newly kinged Friend Faction within the hearts of a fan, led to a change in the band's performance. The sophomore endevor "Homespun" is as angsty as it is raw and beautiful. with a complete LP set of songs tailored for the eager listener. Kelsey Thornton's addition to the band is heard most on "Birthday" and "Blacked Ice," where her vocals and theremin feature prominently. The band then took a hiatus, and while they studied at school, they studied their craft as well. These studies led to the dual EPs CreEPy and Westfield State Collage, a duo of EPs released in late 2010 and 2011 that, while lyricless, show a portrait of a band in transition. This transition will surely shape the next LP from the duo, an as of yet unnamed album due late summer 2011.
