Groovestar is the club side-alias produced by Gavin Brown of Stargame. Whereas Stargame is based more around trance, Groovestar is based more around all-out dance music of the chopped-and-sliced variety, similar to (and heavily inspired by) Justice and Daft Punk. Started roughly around the end of March of '09, Groovestar was created shortly after the birthday of one of Gavin's best friends, who had turned sixteen at the time. Living several states away, Gavin was unable to be there or give any gifts. Knowing that this friend loved Justice and Daft Punk's Music, Gavin decided to make a club-styled track to commemorate this enjoyment of such music, and to give to his friend as a gift. The result was the track "This is the Beat;" a short, bumping, and rather abstract club track that lead to the production of one other song (Groovebox) shortly afterward. The music was mostly (if not completely) sample based, and was incredibly different than any other music which Gavin had made before. It did not seem to fit under the alias of Stargame. After tossing around the idea of creating a new alias, Gavin spoke to his friend about a new club alias called "Gumball," which was quickly laughed at by the one, and lead to a small number of jokes by both. So, thinking on his original alias, and the idea of "grooving to the music," Gavin formed "Groovestar," a strictly sample-based alias specializing in club/dance music. Since the mixing of Groovebox, Gavin has released no further music under this alias. Yet.
