Enfant terrible of the Belgian contemporary art scene, self-proclaimed "artist of mediocrity as an art of attitude", Jacques Lizène (b.1946, Liège) has not ceased to produce uninteresting works, vaguely humorous and often unpleasant. Totally devoid of style apart from the will to explicitly fail and eliminate what could become seducing, Lizène shapes his vision through the appropriation of terms such as 'genetics' and 'syncretism' in order to feed a self-denigrating enterprise of which he has made his life. His genetic interrogations combine to form a true multiform bestiary, a portrait gallery of cross-breeding which approaches the fundamental question of procreation.
