The Foo Birds are an Edinburgh-based funk/soul 8-piece formed in September 2011 by students at The University of Edinburgh. Originally members of Edinburgh University Jazz Orchestra, the band have built up a strong UK fan-base and perform regularly at top venues all over the country. Their music has an emphasis on strong melody with a retro, soul vibe. The band focus on writing music to dance to and every song is underpinned by quality musicianship, which is indicative of musicians with a jazz background who are each strong players in their own right. Following the release of their debut EP in February 2012, the band completed a successful European summer tour culminating in a well-received slot at Kelburn Garden Party. Since then, they have continued to gig regularly around the UK and were invited to headline the after-party for local arts project 'Tinderbox Fest' in December of the same year. The Foo Birds released their first full-length album in February 2013 and, more recently, filmed and recorded some new material in March 2014 as part of The Bedroom Session. They are hoping to reach a wider audience in the coming months with festival slots and another European tour planned for June.
