In late 2022 prominent artist Infekt proposed to shift the genre name from the more popular 'Riddim' (which can be confused with other musical genres) to the older,"cooler sounding" "Trench", causing both praise and controversy from his fanbase the parts of the community. He later posted a manifesto explaining hiw view on how the term applies better to the genre and its history.
