Amaranthe is a Swedish heavy metal band originally formed under the name Avalanche. The band is known for combining multiple metal subgenres and for using three lead vocalists. The project was formed in 2008 by Olof Mörck (Dragonland, Nightrage) and Joacim “Jake E” Lundberg (Dreamland, Dream Evil). The lineup took shape when vocalists Elize Ryd (who had toured with Kamelot) and Andreas Solveström (Cipher System, Within Y) joined, along with drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen (The Cleansing, Koldborn, Mercenary). Bassist Johan Andreassen (Engel) joined after the photoshoot for the “Leave Everything Behind” demo but before the recording of the first album “Amaranthe”. The band initially used the name Avalanche until May 2009, when it was changed due to legal issues, after which the name Amaranthe was adopted. The group later released the demo “Leave Everything Behind”. Their debut album “Amaranthe” was released in April 2011 and reached number 35 in the Swedish charts and number 16 in the Finnish charts. Their second album “The Nexus” was released in March 2013. Olof Mörck described the album as featuring greater contrasts, a more diverse genre mix, and increased creative freedom compared to “Amaranthe”. The album reached number 6 in Sweden, number 4 in Finland, and number 12 on the US Heatseekers chart. In October 2013, harsh vocalist Andreas Solveström left the band and was replaced by Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson (Scarpoint). The third album, “Massive Addictive”, was released on 21 October 2014. In November 2016, clean male vocalist Joacim “Jake E” Lundberg announced a temporary break from the band, and in February 2017 his departure was confirmed. He later joined Cyhra. In July 2017, Amaranthe announced that Nils Molin of Dynazty would join as a permanent vocalist after previously filling in for live performances. On 10 August 2018, the band released the single “365” from their fifth studio album “Helix”, which was released on 19 October 2018. On 13 February 2020, they released the single “Do or Die”, which features former Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow on harsh vocals and Arch Enemy guitarist Jeff Loomis on a guitar solo. The music video was released the following day, and it was announced that their sixth studio album would be released in September 2020. On 26 June 2020, they released the single “Viral”, followed by “Strong” on 14 August 2020 and “Archangel” on 18 September 2020. The album “Manifest” was released on 2 October 2020.
