Blue Basement, founded in 2005, is a quartet from the young rock culture in Oslo, the capital city of Norway. Defining the band’s genre is hard, melodic jazz/progressiv indierock being the closest. Basing the sound on guitars, Blue Basement is definitely a rock band with harse guitar sound and raw bass. The drummer being a metal head adds even more power to the sound, but the indie-ish riffs and melodies makes the sound of Blue Basement unique and available for a bigger audience. Also, a synthesizer (Micro Korg) brings the sound to new levels and allows more experimenting, still holding on to the rock sound. The bands influences varies from jazz and pop to rock and metal. Mentionable bands are Jaga Jazzist, Frank Zappa, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Doors, Coldplay, U2, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Franz Ferdinand. Blue Basement aims to not recreate the specific sound or musical language of their idols and inspirational sources, but to adapt their passion for music in order to create new music that is creative, interesting and enjoyable. In October 2008, Blue Basement released their first full length studio album, Half Moons And Hurricanes. It was recorded in Stovner Rockefabrikk and Hamar Køntri og Wesern klubb, together with Hans Nicolai Bugge and Are Fevang, Kai Christoffersen and Mathias H. Iversen from Ila Auto and Auto Records. The majority of the process was done DIY by the band, and the album is distributed through Phonofile. This September (2010), the second album will be released in cooperation with Urban Sound Studios and Indie Distribution. The album name is Orbits and contains 8 new original songs, and two re-recorded songs from Half Moons and Hurricanes. The release party will be held at Oslo jazzhus aka Sjokoladefabrikken (The Chocolate Factory) and is going to be an enjoyable night. This album has been produced and supervised by Thomas Wang Johannesen.
