Mashriq (meaning "Orient") was founded in 2002 by Husniddin Atoev. He consulted and invited musicians which had played with him before in other music ensembles. The group's repertoire contains most genres of Uzbek music and song, from Shashmaqam, Fergana-Tashkent maqams and national songs, Bukharian classic and folk melodies, Khorezm classical and folk melodies.
