Alex Thorne's debut album The View From Here is truly a cross-Canada affair. Conceived as a summer project while Thorne was working in Whistler, British Columbia, the Saint John, New Brunswick native enlisted the help of East Coast music scene veteran Chris Fudge (The Butterfly Effect/Edge on Spiral) during the writing and recording process. Fudge helped bring the low-fi folk pop songs to life with simple, understated arrangements that focused on Thorne's soaring vocals. The result is a eight track tale of wanderlust and longing. The excitement of a new town and a fresh start is evident in opening track "Sea To Sky," yet tracks such as "On Tour" and "Back Around Here" leave the listener longing to return home. A romantic at heart, nature plays a pivotal role in several of Thorne's songs, including standout tracks "Cold Nights" and "Sleepyhead". Topped with guest performances by Clinton Charlton (Penny Blacks), Chris Braydon (Penny Blacks/Jessica Rhaye) and Ontario based-songwriter Sarah Loucks, The View From Here is an exceptional debut from an emerging East Coast talent.
