Bryson LaShun Potts was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to an African American father and Jamaican mother. He was raised in Southeast Memphis in the Parkway Village area and attended Cordova High School, where he played basketball. He began freestyling with friends at 15 and started pursuing music seriously at 16. Potts released his first song, "No Love Anthem," in March 2018 under the name YNR Choppa, followed by his debut mixtape "No Love the Takeover" in July. He appeared on the cypher-style track "No Chorus Pt. 3" with his Shotta Fam collective, gaining attention for his performance and dance moves. His breakout single "Shotta Flow" was released in 2019 and entered the Billboard Hot 100, later peaking at number 36. A remix featuring Blueface was released in June 2019. In early 2019, he released "Shotta Flow 2," which received 20 million views within two months. He released singles including "Capo," "Birdboy," "Blocc Is Hot," and "Free YoungBoy," the latter being the first release on his own label No Love Entertainment (NLE) in partnership with Warner Records. "Camelot" followed in September 2019, reaching number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. Potts released his debut EP "Cottonwood" in December 2019, which featured previously released singles including "Shotta Flow" and a collaboration with Meek Mill. The release was accompanied by a short film of the same name. In 2020, he released his debut studio album "Top Shotta," preceded by singles such as "Walk Em Down" with Roddy Ricch, "Shotta Flow 5," and "Narrow Road" featuring Lil Baby. He was included in XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class. Later that year, he released the mixtape "From Dark to Light," marking a shift towards more positive and spiritual themes. In 2022, Potts released his fifth mixtape "Me vs. Me," featuring guest appearances from Young Thug, Polo G, G Herbo, and Moneybagg Yo. Singles from the mixtape included "Shotta Flow 6" and "Walk Em Down 2" with Lil Durk. He also featured on Lambo40e's single "Self Esteem" in November 2022. He released "Shotta Flow 7" in December 2023. In April 2025, he published a children’s book titled "Cricket Stop Cricking" to promote literacy among children.
