Artist Biography For Architectural Metaphor
Who And What Are Arc Met? They Are A Three Now Four Piece Space Rock Band From The West Of Massachusetts. Sometimes Described As The Best Krautrock Band In The US Their Sound And Name Are Linked. The Name Thought Of By Founding Member And Keyboardist Paul Eggleston Comes Out Of The Way The Band Composes Songs Through Jam Sessions. "Our Music Is Constantly Improvisational. It Turns Into Something Eventually Like Architecture. It's Sort Of A Psychedelic Process". The Band Usually Performs One Or Two Covers In Their Sets By Bands That They Have Obviously Been Influenced By Such As Hawkwind Roxy Music King Crimson Pink Floyd And Tangerine Dream. The Band's Sound Used To Be Very Heavy On The Synthesizers With The Guitar Laying Down A Spacey Wave Through The Music As Opposed To A Standard Song Riff With The Songs Free Flowing In Space. The Only Words Were The Occassional Poem. The Freeform Lineup Who Showed A Strong John Cage/Stockhausen/Throbbing Gristle Influence Varied From 4-6 Members And Recorded The Bulk Of Odysseum Galacti Before Paring Down To A Trio In 92. Chris Green Later Of Bionaut Played Guitar In The Trio Until Early 1994.
In The 90's Since The Joining Of Greg Kozlowski On Guitar The Guitar Has Played A More Dominant Role In Their Sound Still Not Relying On Any Standard Riffs But Giving The Band More Of The Rock Elements Of Hawkwind Ozric Tentacles And King Crimson. The Band Stabilized As A Trio With Paul Greg And Vocalist-Drummer Deb Young. This Was The Lineup From 1994-2000 Which Recorded Creature Of The Velvet Void And Viva. They Also Were Fixtures Of The Strange Daze Festivals From 1997-2000. With The Passing Of The Twentieth Century So Too Did Architectural Metaphor End An Era And Begin Another. Stepping In To Sit Behind The Drums Was Patrick Murphy Whose Numerous Musical Credits Include Playing With Dinosaur Jr And Touring With The Lemonheads.This Trio Recorded The Live Instrumental Meltdown Other Music. With Their New Singer They Recorded The Upcoming Album Everything You Know Is Wrong. The Newest Material Is Tighter And More Focused. Many Songs Now Have A Vocal Line By Andrea Aguayo Who Had Two Awards From Downbeat Jazz Magazine Under Her Belt Before Graduating High School. With The Addition Of Andrea They Have Stepped Into A More Pop Territory Akin To Stereolab As A Stoner Rock Band. Still Psychedelic Don't Worry! The Band Are At Their Best When Performing Live. Paul Has Performed With Bionaut Wank Factor 7 J Mascis Kevin Shields The Unband And Once With Hawkwind. Greg Has Played With Secret Saucer. Andrea Has Played With The Accidents. Murph Was And Is In Dinosaur Jr And Had A Stint In The Lemonheads. They Appeared On Cleopatra Records Space Box And On Tributes To King Crimson And Genesis And A Tribute To Ray Mason.
