Frogtoon Music - Song Info: Lester Left Town

Wayne Shorter Cooks Up A Hot Tune Here. The Tune Has A Bebop-Like Headlong Rush -- The Head Alone Will Get You Out Of Your Seat It's So Driving And Interesting. Shorter Has Paired A Harmony And Melody That Don't Match Up That Closely -- The Melody Intentionally According To Shorter Has The Feel Of A Solo. And Of Course Blakey Swings His Tush Off Behind It. Shorter Does What He Does So Well Serve Up A Harmonically Complex Set Of Changes That Nonetheless Allow For Someone To Blow Hard Over Them. And Indeed Shorter On Tenor Lee Morgan On Trumpet And Bobby Timmons Do Just That! I'd Heard That The Title Has Nothing At All To Do With "Lester Leaps In " The Famous Bebop Reference To The Prez. But In Fact On The Liner Notes To "The Big Beat " From Whence This Originates Shorter Calls It Out As "a Little Tribute To Lester."
