Since His Arrival In 1993 He Has Earned Himself An Opinion Of An Exellent Player With A Distinctive Sound Which Allowed Him Cooperation With Some Of The Most Prominent Dutch Musicians. The Projects He Has Been Involved In Range From Rocky Horror Picture Show Reykjavik `91 To European Jazz Youth Orchestra Summer 2000 And Eric Vloiemans Quintet. After Trying Out Several Studies Such As Recording Engineering And Philosophy He Settled On The Royal Conservatory In The Hague Where He Finished A Masters Degree UM In Jazz Double Bass Playing Spring `99. First With Jacques Schols And Then With Hein Van De Geyn And Frans Van Der Hoeven He Learned The Rudiments Of His Art In A Multicultural Environment. There He Met The People Who Make The Core Of The New Generation Of Modern European Jazz. Among The Bands Gulli Gudmundsson Plays With Currently Are Eric Vloeimans Gategrash Natasza Kurek Group Vansina-Vanbruggen-Gudmundsson Trio Atlandshafid Futhark And Others. He Also Has An Own Band BINARY ORCHID That Focuses On His Compositions And Free Improvisation. Prompter Is A Cooperation With Wolfert Brederode Making Music For Theaters. He Has Played At The North Sea Jazz Festival Numerous Times Made Many Tours Through Holland Belgium Germany Switzerland Austria Iceland Poland And France. Travelled With The Zenker-Kappe Quartet To Colombia 1998 Carlos Denia To Spain 1997 Joel Palsson Quintet To Canada 2000 Paivi Turpainen To Finland 2000 And Eric Vloeimans Quintet To Thailand 2002 . He Took Part In Several Competitions With The Zenker-Kappe Quartet 1st Price Dutch Jazz Competition 1997 1st Price German Jazz Competition 1997 1st Price XXIII. International Jazz Competition For Groups 1999 In Getxo Spain Winning The First Price Of Both The Jury And The Audience . Also 1st Price Of Dutch Jazz Competition 1995 With DiLiberto-Gesing Quartet. Since Autumn 2003 Gudmundsson Is Teaching Double Bass At The Royal Flemish Conservatory In Antwerpen.
