Artist Biography For Errorhead


Marcus Nepomuc Deml Was Born In Prague On August 9. 1967. His Family Emigrated From The Czech Republic To Salzburg/Austria In 1968 But Moved To West Germany A Year Later. The Deml Family Lived In Many German Citys Before Finally Settling In Frankfurt In 1977. Around That Time Marcus Started To Show Major Interest In All Kinds Of Music And Fell In Love With The Sound Of The Electric Guitar After Hearing Jimi Hendrix With The “Band Of Gypsies” And Deep Purple’s “Made In Japan”. At The Age Of 12 He Finally Got Serious And Started Practicing A Few Hours Daily. He Discovered The Music Of Blues Greats Such As B.B King Albert Collins And T-Bone Walker. He Realized That The Blues Was The Origin Of Most Pop Music As Well As Jazz Which Marcus Started To Study At The Age Of 15 Being Influenced By Players Like The Great Michael Sagmeister And George Benson. Around The Same Time Marcus Had His First School Band Experiences Playing Material By Cream And B.B King. At The Age Of 16 He Formed “Quest” With The Amazing Moritz Eggert On Keyboards Who Is Nowadays Regarded As One Of The Greatest Composers Of Modern Classical Music Of Our Times. The Band Was Influenced By The Likes Of Emerson Lake And Palmer And The Early Works Of Genesis Amongst Others. By That Time Marcus Had Also Discovered Bands Like The Mahavishnu Orchestra And The Dixie Dregs Which Made Him Practice A Whole Lot More. He Also Discovered Two Of His All Time Favourites Gary Moore And Allan Holdsworth And Became Extremely Fascinated With The Possibility Of Forming The Guitar Tone Just With The Touch Of His Fingers. It Was Quite Obvious At This Early Age That He Would Pursue A Career As A Professional Musician. He Gained Experience In Bands Of All Kind Of Styles Ranging From Rock And Funk To Jazz Fusion And Experimental Music And Kept Busy Writing Material For His Own Projects. In 1986 After Finishing High-School He Moved To Hollywood To Attend The Famous Musicians Institute In Order To Improve His Qualities As A Player And A Writer. There He Studied With Great Players Such As Scott Henderson Paul Gilbert Jennifer Batten Larry Carlton And Frank Gambale. The Next 2 Years He Practiced Up To 12 Hours A Day And So He Was Asked To Join The Faculty In 1988. For The Next Five Years Marcus Played The L.A. Club Circuit With Many Bands Including Projects With Drummer Carmine Appice And Producer Randy Jackson But Business Problems And Personal Tragedies Made All These Promising Projects Fall Apart. Marcus Was Not Able To Acquire A Permanent Work Permit In The United States Even Though He Had Offers As A Session And Touring Guitarist. Because Of These Problems Marcus Finally Decided To Return To Europe In 1993. There He Immediately Started To Work On The ‘Ambient Meets Guitar’-Project “Earth Nation” With Producer Ralf Hildenbeutel For The Eye Q Label. The Record Was Released In 1994 And The Band Made Their Live Debut On The Famous Montreux Jazz Festival Which Resulted Also In The Live Album From The Same Concert. At The Same Time Marcus Became A High In Demand Studio Player Which Led To A Career With Around 300 Sessions That He Continued For More Than 12 Years With Contributions To Artists Like Kingdome Come Nena Toto Singer Bobby Kimball Rick Astley Snap Simon Collins 3P Laith Al-Deen Mario Adorf And Michael Sadler. He Also Toured Extensively With Saga Kingdome Come Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt Achim Reichel Lotto King Karl And Simon Collins. Even Though Earth Nation Was Quite Successful Marcus Wanted To Gain More Artistic Control And Parted From The Project In 1995. He Started Working On A Solo Project Which Eventually Transformed Into Errorhead. Teaming Up With Jeremy Sash As A Co-Producer Resulted In The First Errorhead Album Which Got Rave Reviews For It’s Crossover Between Guitar And Electronica. The First Errorhead Line-Up With Jeremy Sash Rhythm Guitar Oliver Poschmann Bass Guitar Paul Alexander Schulte Drums And Steffen Schmid DJ Toured Successfully And Signed A Major Deal In 2001. They Started To Record The Follow-Up “ErrorRhythm” With The Addition Of Singer Marianne Bork-Larson. After Finishing The Album They Found Out That The Label Faced Bankruptcy And That They Wouldn’t Be Able To Release The Finished Album. This Resulted In The Breakup Of The Original Lineup. By That Time Marcus Had Built Up His Own Recording Studio The “Electric Lion” Where He Rerecorded Most Of The Guitars Replaced The Vocal Tunes With Instrumentals And Released The Album On His Own Label EGP-Records In 2004. In Support Of The Album Errorhead Started To Tour Successfully With A New Line-Up Consisting Of Bass Legend Frank Itt And Drummer Harry Bum Tschak. In 2005 Guitar Player Magazine Recognized Marcus As One Of The “Top 3 Guitar Heroes” And Invited Him To The “Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame” In Cleveland Where Steve Lukather And Joe Satriani Presented Him The Award. 2006 Was An Important Year For Marcus As It Saw The Worldwide Release Of His’ And Frank’s Side Project “Electric Outlet” With Drummer Ralf Gustke And Keyboardist Tom Aeschbacher Which Was Released Through Lion Music. The Music Of Electric Outlet Was Inspired By Albums Such As Billy Cobham’s “Spectrum” And Stanley Clarke’s “School Days” And Once Again Received Rave Reviews From Around The Globe For It’s Power And Musicianship. Marcus Also Decided To Quit The Session Business Completely And Started Working On A New Errorhead Album. With The Addition Of A Monster Rhythm Section Consisting Of Frank Itt And Drummer Zacky Tsoukas And Also Singer Robbie Smith Errorhead Finished Mixing Their Third Album In June 2007 And Are Currently Working On The Distribution Of The Record. In Addition Marcus Also Recorded An Instructional DVD Wit Some Live Footage Which Is Hopefully Going To Be Released Later This Year.
