Artist Biography For Fine China

There Are Two Bands With The Name Fine China. 1 Fine China From Phoenix Arizona. Fine China Is An Indie Rock Band From Phoenix Arizona Comprised Of Rob Withem Vocals Guitar Greg Markov Bass And Thom Walsh Drums .
The Indie Rock Three-Piece Fine China Have Been Honing Their Keyboard-Laden Style Since Signing To Velvet Blue Music In 1997. That Same Year Fine China Made Their Debut With The Release Of Their 7 Inch Entitled "The Beautiful" And An E.P. Entitled "No One Knows". In 1998 The Band Released Their Second E.P. Known As "Rialto Bridge". These First Two E.P.S Were A Mixture Of Rock And Synth-Pop. During The Span Of 1997-1998 The Band Started Gigging In And Around Their Hometown Of Phoenix Building A Name For Themselves While Sharing Tour Dates With Fellow Space Rockers Like Starflyer 59 And Electronic Group Joy Electric. In 2000 The Band Released Their First Full Length The Synth-Pop Oriented "When The World Sings" On Tooth & Nail Records. In 2001 Fine China Released Their Second Full Length And And Fifth Album All Together Entitled "You Make Me Hate Music". While Their First Full-Length Was Synth Heavy This Album Was Much More Rock Oriented . It Received Great Reviews And Pushed The Band Further Into The Indie Rock Spotlight.
After A Brief Hiatus The Band Returned To The Studio In 2004 To Begin Work On Their Third Full Length. In 2005 It Was Released As The Critically Acclaimed "Jaws Of Life" Which Features Fellow Velvet Blue Artist Josh Dooley Of Map And Starflyer 59. The "Jaws Of Life" Is Also Noted For The Pop Hit "My Worst Nightmare" Which Is Known As A Favorite Track From The Populat Television Show The OC. That Same Year They Also Released A 7 Inch Titled "Don't Frown" On Velvet Blue Music. Fine China The Band Temporarily Came To An End In 2006. Rob Withem Announced This Sad News Through A Letter Dated April 21 2006. The Letter Is As Follows "better To Burn Out Than To Fade Away
Hello Everyone This Is Rob From FC. My First Post On This Site Will Also Be My Last Post. After 9 Years Of Being And Doing Fine China The Day Has Come To Call It Quits. We Are Burnt Out We Are Tired And We Are Ready To Move On To The Next Stage In Our Lives. We Have Loved Being In This Band And Making Music That We Thought/hoped/wondered If It Meant Anything To Anyone And The Response On This Site Alone Has Been Wonderful. Thank You For Your Generous And Kind Words And Thank You For Listening.
In The Days To Come We Will Finally Post The Video For Rated-R Movie As Well As Some Live And Rare Tracks As A Farewell To You Our Friends." In 2015 Common Wall Media CWM Released A Limited Run Of The Album The Jaws Of Life On Vinyl To Celebrate Its 10-Year Anniversary. Additionally The Band Recorded A New Song “Every Nerve Alert” Included With The Reissue With A Download Code. Topping Off That Year Fine China Played Their First Concert Since 2006 At The Rebel Lounge For The Reissue Release Party. While Intended As A One-Off Performance And New Song Happenings That Year And Into 2016 Led Rob To Ask Greg And Thom In Early 2017 About Recording A Fourth Fine China Album Both Were Happy To Oblige. Rob Provided Demos Early On And Asked Thom To Collaborate On Programming And Arrangement As Previously Done For A Plastiq Music Compilation Track In The Early ‘00s. Using Logic Pro And Cloud Storage Several Tracks Were Underway But The Primary Focus Fell On The Song “Anybody Else”. Sessions For LP 4 Commenced In September That Year At Rob’s Home Studio And Completed In October. Thom Submitted A Last-Minute Edit For “Anybody Else” And It Made The Cut Rob Said He Was Glad For It. The Album Was Mixed And Mastered At Bob Hoag’s Flying Blanket Studios In Early November. The Single “Not Thrilled” Was Released In Early 2018 By Velvet Blue Music VBM On The You Are Not The Future EP Which Also Includes The Songs “I Was Listening” And “No Vibe”. By This Time LP 4 Was Officially Titled Not Thrilled. In Late January 2018 NPR Wrote A Glowing Review Of The Lead-Off Track “Anybody Else” For The All Songs Considered Section Of Their Website. The Song Received Subsequent Airplay On LA’s NPR-Affiliate KCRW. Other Tracks From The Album Have Received Airplay By KCRW “The Light Of Spring” Being One And “Anybody Else” Was Played As Recently As October 2021 On KCRW’s Sunday Afternoon Show. Not Thrilled Was Released By VBM In February 2018 With Availability On The Major Music Subs E.G. Spotify Apple Music Etc. As Well Along With All Of Fine China’s Back Catalog. In 2019 Fine China Had The Opportunity To Open Three Times For Longtime Band Favorites The Ocean Blue. Shows Were In PHX Valley Bar SD The Casbah And LA Echoplex . A Fourth Show Had Been Scheduled For March 2020 In Phoenix But COVID Put That On Hold. It Was Rescheduled Twice And Finally Played On 11/13/2021. Several Of These Shows Featured New Keyboardist Micah Bentley Josh Dooley Of MAP On 2nd Guitar As Well As Rob’s Cousin Jonathan A Professional Percussionist. In February 2020 Fine China Recorded The Single “Trees At Night”. It Was Released Digitally By VBM In March 2020. While The Track Is Available On The Music Subs Since That Time It Has Been Subsequently Remixed And Remastered With Additional Songs And A Pending Release By VBM On Hold Currently Due To Vinyl Shortage . Recording For A Fifth LP Is Slated To Commence Q2/22. 2 Fine China From San Diego CA.
