I Refuse To Be A Victim by Jenny Woo

Artist Biography For Jenny Woo

Jenny Woo Born And Raised In Alberta Canada Has Been Playing Lead Guitar In Canadian Oi! Bands Such As The Kroovy Rookers For A Number Of Years. Playing Loud Aggressive Songs About Drinking Beer And Partying Hard Definitely Spoke To Jenny But After Awhile She Decided That It Was Time To Try For Something New And Different. Inspired By Acts Such As Franky Flame Badlands The 4 Skins And Johnny Cash She Wrote A Few Songs On Her Acoustic Guitar In 2008 And Started Playing Them At Local Pubs And Punk Shows. The Songs Were Simple And Spoke To Themes Such As Loyalty Friendship Dead-End Jobs And Not Giving A Damn. Though The Songs Were Softer And Were Influenced By Alt. Country And Canadian Folk They Had The Same Heart And Soul Of Subculture Music And Jenny Was Confident That They Could Find Some Place In The Skinhead Scene. Jenny Set Out To Record A 5 Track Demo In Her Friend’s Garage And Released It Independently In March 2009. Despite The DIY Quality Of The Recordings The Demo Tracks Became Popular In Alberta And Abroad And She Began Playing More Prominent Shows In And Around Her Local Scene. She Was Even Put On The Bill To Support Acts Such As Condemned 84 The Warriors And Oxblood For The American East Coast Oi! Fest 2010 That Was Soon Thereafter Cancelled… Probably Due To Jenny’s Overwhelming Infamy . Also As A Result Of Her Low Budget Recordings Jenny Was Invited To Play Oi! Festivals And Gigs In Indonesia Malaysia The United Kingdom Poland Brazil And Saskatchewan Which She Hopes To Play In The Coming Years Once She Saves Enough Money For Airfare. After Several Months Of Internet Popularity She Was Signed To Randale Records To Release Her First Full-Length Album Entitled Alberta Rose. In The Same Way That Bands Such As Ultima Thule Have Blended Subculture Music With Traditional Scandinavian Folk Music The Album Alberta Rose Blends Traditional Canadian Folk Music With The Strength And Power Of Good Old Fashioned Oi!. Comprised Of 4 Electric Tracks And 8 Acoustic Tracks The Album Truly Is The Best Of Both Worlds Bringing Together The Expressive Lyrics Unique Arrangements And Feel Of Canadian Folk With The Badass Sound And Themes Of Traditional Oi!. As A Result Alberta Rose Undoubtedly Carves Out A New Sub-Genre Of Oi! And Serves As A Ground-Breaking Debut For Jenny Woo.
