Artist Biography For Magic People

Magic People Is A Modern Rock Band Based In Boston Massachusetts. They Eschew The Guitar In Favor Of Futuristic Keyboards And Their Songs Bend Toward Angular Cries Of Anxiety Leavened With Beauteous Flights Of Fancy. The Band Is Fronted By A Winking Maniac Who Forgoes Traditional Singing With Proclamations That Have More In Common With Fire And Brimstone Than With Rhythm And Blues. The Experimental Nature Of The Band Is Rooted In A Meticulously Sloppy Rhythm Section Which Can Appeal To The Mind And Thighs In Equal Proportions And Always Aim To Excite A Youthful Ear. In 2005 John Manson And David Utzinger Of The Young Sexy Assassins Had Grown Disenchanted With The Inertia Of That Band And Decided To Form A Sleeker Unit For The Sole Purpose Of Touring Europe With John On Drums And Dave Playing Keys. Al Deaderick Was Enlisted As A Backup Synth Player And They Played A Few Sparse And Bleak Shows Until They Decided To Add Winston Braman On The Bass To Fill Out The Sound And Shuck Oysters. A Brief But Successful West Coast Tour Was Attempted And Soon After Their Return Flautist Gabi Aguilar Was Added To The Roster In The Hopes Of Appealing To A Smoother Audience. It Was With This Line-Up That They Recorded Keen Whips I'd Wear As Rubies. Though Unsuccessful At Achieving Adult Contemporary Airplay They Soon Embarked Their Promised Tour Of Europe And Were Well Received By Several Frenchmen. Soon After That Tour John Decided To Relinquish His Drumming Duties And Handed His Sticks To Black Eyes Expatriate Michael Kanin. A Few Months Went By And There Was A Small East Coast Tour But The Band Had Become Unruly And With Six Members Ungainly And After Recording The Second Album Oh Decay! The Band Split Up In 2006. John And Al Were Left With Piles Of Unsold Merchandise And A Yearning For More Magic So They Persevered And In 2007 The Band Was Reformed With Joshua Owsley On Drums And Jesse Travers Hubbell On Noises And Guitar. John Now Played Bass While Al Stayed On A Stripped Down Synthesizer. This Smaller Unit Began A New Era And Sound For The Band As Well As A New Tour Of Europe. After A Month Playing On The Continent They Recorded You Are The Magic People And Split Up Once Again. The Band Now Consists Solely Of John And Al On Bass And Synth With Occasional Electronic And Assorted Percussion.
