Artist Biography For Matija Dedic

Born In Zagreb On March 2nd 1973. Matija Started Playing Classic Piano At The Age Of Five. After He Finished Music High School «Vatroslav Lisinski» In 1991. Went To Graz To Jazz Academy Where He Graduated In 1997. Under Prof. Harald Neuwirth & Private Lessons With J. Taylor In Cologne Hal Galper And Bill Dobins. Since He Was Raised In The Family Surounded By Pop And Traditional Musicians He Began To Listen To All Kinds Of Music Very Early Soon Discovering Jazz And Finding That It Alowes Him Apstract And More Personal Musical Point Of View. After Returning To Zagreb In 1997. He Beguins To Play More Often And His Work Is Recognized In And Out Of Croatia. During Those Years He Played With His Own Band «Boliers Quartet» With Whom He Supported The Likes Of B. Golson K. Burell And «All Stars Band». Meanwhile He Also Had A Chance To Play In In «Tamara Obrovac Quartet» «Ladislav Fidrij Quintet». In 1998. He Formed «Matija Dedic Trio» With Experienced Jazz Musicians From «Tamara Obrovac Quartet» Ziga Goloba On Bass And Kruno Levacic On Drums. Over The Years He Played In Italy Germany Slowakia England Brazil Belgium Turkey Spain Austria France Denmark Sweden Switzerland Hungary Greece With Names Like A. Queen M. Drew R. Ringwood B. Petrovic M. Murphy Band Patrizia Conte And David Gazarov G. Basso M. Griffith O. Fokan J.L. Rassinfosse A. Parghel Tommy Emanuel And Ignacio Beroa. He Writtes Music For Television And Theatre And Also Occasionaly Playes With Some Big Pop Names On Croatian Music Scene. 1998. Also Gave Him An Award For Best Jazz Pianist Of The Year In The Shape Of Status An Award That Professionals Give To Professionals . Porin Awards In 1999. Something Like A Grammy In Croatia Saw Him Winning 2 Awards For Best Jazz Album Of The Year For «Octopussy» And Best Jazz Record Of The Year For «Pictures». In That Year He Won The Status Award Again For The Best Pianist Of The Year. Porin 2000. Saw Him Winning Again The Best Jazz Record Of The Year This Time For «To The Lite». The Same Year He Signed A Record Deal With Cantus Records. Croatian Authors Society Awarded Him For The Album «Octopussy» As The Best Author And Best Jazz Newcomer In The Last 10 Years! In 2000. Cantus Released First Solo Record From Matija Dedic «Solo Part 1» And In Decembar Of 2001. The Second One «Handwriting» For Which He Won 3 Porin Awards In 2002. In July 2002. Matija Performed On The Montreux Jazz Festival In France As One Of The 11 Finalists That Were Chosen From More Than 400 Pianists Around The World. At The End Of The Year 2004. Dallas Records Released A Brand New Matija Dedic Record Titled «Tempera». The Album Is Brilliant Compilation Of Well Known Songs From The Biggest Male Pop Star In Croatia – Gibonni This Time Reconstructed And Covered In A Jazz Way By Matija Himself. «Tempera» Once Again Showed All Of Matija's Talents And Proved Him As Croatian Lead And Busiest Jazz Pianist. In 2005. He Recorded His Latest Record Named «Drugi Pogled» In Which He Covered His Father's Most Popular Compositions. This Cd Was Also Released By Dallas Records. In 2008. Matija Had A New Cooperations With Jeff Ballard Larry Grenadier B. Williams And L. White. Matija Also Took Privat Lessons From Barry Harris. His Father Arsen Dedic Riecieved Awards Premio Tenco And Jacques Brel And His Mother Gabi Novak While Her Careere Sang With L. Armstrong G. Burton P. Woods T. Tielmans H.Merril J. Turner.
