Hi De Ho Live by Popol Ace

Artist Biography For Popol Ace

The Norwegian Progressive Rock Band Popol Ace Evolved From The Brass-Rock Band Arman Sumpe Dur Express. The Band's Members Had A Long And Storied Past Dating Back To The Late Fifties. Singer Jahn Teigen Was Already Somewhat Well-Known In Norway. Originally Named Popol Vuh After The Famous Mayan Book Of The Dead They Were Forced To Change Their Name So As Not To Be Confused With German Composer/keyboardist Florian Fricke's Already-Established Group Of The Same Name. The Band Was Predicted A Great International Career But They Didn't Manage To Become Very Famous Outside Norway. Jahn Teigen Actually Turned Down An Offer To Audition For Genesis After Peter Gabriel Quit. This Shows How Much Teigen And His Bandmates Believed In Popol Ace At The Time. The Band Won The Norwegian Grammy Spellemannsprisen In 1972 For Best Band. Teigen Left After The Band's Third And Arguably Best Album 1975's Stolen From Time To Pursue A Comparatively Lucrative Solo Career. The Rest Of The Band Recruited Singer Asbjørn Krogtoft Ex-1-2-6 For One Final Album 1978's Curly Sounds Before Calling It Quits.
