Artist Biography For Socratic Method
Socratic Method Was Formed In 1988 In Charlottetown P.E.I. Originally A Thrash Metal Unit They Moved To Vancouver British Columbia In 1991 In Pursuit Of A New Beginning. Upon Moving To Vancouver The Band Became More Experimental And Became A Very Eclectic And Diverse Entity. They Have Over The Years Recorded An Endless Library Of 30 Or More Albums Worth Of Material. The Band Is An Institution Having Many Members Come And Go Over The Years. Socratic Was More Of A Studio Band Then A Live Band Until The Latter Years. Very Few Gigs Were Played In Their Prime A Couple Of Shows At Vancouver’s Legendary Town Pump Were Heralded As Milestones. In The Mid 90s Socratic Method Music Was The Opposite Of What Was Going On. While Nirvana And The Seattle Scene Was On Top Of The World With Simplistic Punk Driven Sounds Socratic Method Was Going Further And Further Into Progressive And Technically Intricate Music Which Did Not Earn Them Any Popularity Contests At The Time. In 1995 Socratic Released One Single "Fortune" For The Desolation Sound Compilation Album The Song Had Momentary Airplay On The C-Fox Radio Station . Wayne Powell Has Been The Only Original Member All Through The Existence Of The Band. There Were Of Course Many Members Who Deserve Credit However Wayne Powell And Darren McQuaid Lasted The Long Run And Became The Foundation Of The Band. It Was Unfortunate That The Mid 90’s Line Up Had Disbanded Since They Probably Were Close To Getting Signed And Having Some Success They Never Really Got A Chance. Socratic Continued Through The Latter Part Of The 90’s Recording Their Only Full Length Official Album In 1998 Entitled "Vertical Ponds." The Album Was A Self Produced 11 Song Album And However Good Could Not Fully Or Truly Represent Everything Socratic Method Was There Was No Way You Could In One Album. The Band Finally Disbanded In 1998 And Members Moved On To Pursue Other Endeavors. Recently August 2008 The Mid Nineties Line-Up Of Powell McQuaid Peters And Larsen Reunited And Are Once Again Functioning As A Recording Entity.
