Peter Kember Is An English Musician And Producer Born In 19 November 1965. More Usually Known As Sonic Boom And Was A Founding Member Of Alternative Rock Band Spacemen 3. Since The Disbandment Of Spacemen 3 In 1991 Kember Has Recorded As Spectrum And E.A.R. Experimental Audio Research . The Two Projects Have Existed In Parallel And Recordings Under Both Names Occasionally Only Feature Kember. Kember's First Solo Album Spectrum Was Recorded In 1989. While Spacemen 3 Were Still A Going Concern And Featured The Other Members Of The Group. Kember Recruited New Musicians For The Group Spectrum In 1991. Initial Spectrum Releases Carried On From The Sound Of Late-Period Spacemen 3 Featuring Conventional Songs And A Regular Band. First Single "How You Satisfy Me" Was An Original Composition Reminiscent Of 1960s Garage Bands Based As It Was Upon The Chip Taylor-Penned Pop Hit "Can't Let Go". 1992's Soul Kiss Glide Divine Album Was Split Between Songs And Longer Experimental Pieces Featuring Drones And Repetition And Highs Lows And Heavenly Blows 1994 Was Also Mainly Song-Oriented. Kember Has Occasionally Collaborated With Jessamine And The Silver Apples Under The Spectrum Name. Spectrum Was The Most High-Profile And Straightforward Of The Projects Undertaken By Pete "Sonic Boom" Kember After The Demise Of The Trance-Rock Avatars Spacemen 3. As His Work As A Member Of The Experimental Audio Research Coterie Allowed Kember The Opportunity To Explore Ambient Textures And Tonal Constructs Spectrum Satisfied The Singer/guitarist's More Conventional Pop Leanings While Never Losing Sight Of The Hypnotic Otherworldliness Which Became His Music's Trademark And Legacy. The Name Spectrum Initially Appeared As The Title Of The First Sonic Boom Solo Album Released In 1990 Before The Break-Up Of Spacemen 3 A Collection Of Ethereal Nearly Formless Songs Spectrum Openly Acknowledged Kember's Debt To Suicide With Its Cover Of The Duo's "Rock 'n' Roll Is Killing My Life." Meanwhile The Kember Half Of The Spacemen 3 Swan Song Recurring With Its Tighter More Structured Songs Like The Gentle Wash Of "Just To See You Smile" Offered An Even Stronger Indication Of Things To Come. Sonic Boom Was The Alias Of Pete Kember Best Known As The Singer-Guitarist In The Legendary Hypno-Drone Unit Spacemen 3. A Native Of Rugby England While Attending Art College Kember Teamed With Jason Pierce To Form Spacemen 3 Recording A Demo Tape In 1986 After Signing To Glass Records The Group Recorded Their Debut LP Sound Of Confusion For Which Kember Adopted The Name Peter Gunn. By The Time Of Their Follow-Up EP Walkin' With Jesus He Had Rechristened Himself Sonic Boom Keeping The Pseudonym For The Duration Of His Career. In 1990 He Issued His Lone Solo LP Spectrum After The 1991 Swan Song Recurring Sonic Recycled The Spectrum Title As The Name Of His New Band Which Debuted With The LP Soul Kiss Glide Divine . Sonic Boom Was Also The Driving Force Behind The Experimental Audio Research Project A Loose Configuration Of Musicians Which Included My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields. Since 1996 The Spectrum Name Has Been Used For Kember's Solo Work Sometimes With Pete Bain From The Original Spacemen 3 Lineup And Recording Engineer/musician Alf Hardy. The Music Made With Bain And Hardy Was Often In The Same Vein As E.A.R. Reflecting An Increased Interest In Vintage Analogue Synthesizers Especially Those Made By EMS. After Issuing 1997's Forever Alien Album There Were No Further Releases Of New Material Under The Spectrum Moniker Until 2008's Indian Giver Collaboration With Jim Dickinson. Kember Has Also Worked With Füxa's Randall Nieman. During 2008-11 A Four-Piece Spectrum Toured Extensively In America And Europe. This Included Providing Main Support For The 2009 Reformation Tour Of My Bloody Valentine And A Performance At The All Tomorrow's Parties Festival In May 2011. An EP War Sucks Was Released In 2009. Kember Has Also Played And Collaborated With Birmingham Band The Field Trip Stereolab Yo La Tengo Britta Phillips And Dean Wareham Cheval Sombre Cloudland Canyon And Pat Fish Of The Jazz Butcher The Fields Of Hay And With The Italian Band Julie's Haircut. Kember Produced Blair 1523's Debut Album Beautiful Debris. He Remixed Britta Phillips And Dean Wareham's L’Avventura Album Releasing Sonic Souvenirs In 2003. In 2010 Kember Undertook Superervisory Production On MGMT's Second Album Titled Congratulations In 2011 He Mixed And Mastered Panda Bear's Fourth Album Tomboy In 2012 He Produced TEEN's Record In Limbo. In February 2014 It Was Announced He Will Produce Panda Bear's Fifth Album Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper NEW SPECTRUM ALBUM INFORMATION The New Spectrum Album Has The Working Title "On The Wings Of Mercury" And Is Going To Be Released On Space Age Recordings Sometime Late This Year Hopefully.
