Brother And Sister Synth Pop Duo From Newcastle Upon Tyne England Formed In 1982. Recorded 2 Radio Sessions For John Peel In 1983 Who Championed Their Music And Remarked Of Their First Session "Hearing Something Like This Means As Much To Me As The First Time I Heard Little Richard And It Means Even More To Me To Be Able To Play It To You On The Radio. I Think That's Wonderful I Really Do". Session Track 'Television Satellite' Reached Number 37 In The Listener-Voted Peel Festive Fifty Of That Year. Between February 1983 And Early 1984 They Became Embroiled In A Lengthy Legal Battle To Extricate Themselves From A Previous Record And Publishing Contract With London-Based Sunny Records Which They Believed To Be Unjust And Restrictive. Following This They Signed To Chrysalis Records Who Dropped Them After A Year Releasing No Records. Their First Commercially Available Record The Self-Produced And Released Single 'Losing You' Came Out In 1985 Was Available By Mail Order Only And Enjoyed Considerable Support From John Peel.
In 1986/87 They Released Three Home Recorded Singles 'Happy Together' Torn Open' & 'Television Satellite' And An Album 'Sophie And Peter Johnston' On I-Major/WEA Records.
The Duo Split In 1989 After A Brief Incarnation As The Secret Garden.
In Response To Renewed Interest Via The Internet Sophie And Peter Johnston Reformed In 2007 And Recorded An Album Of New Material Entitled 'Sophie And Peter Johnston'.
