Splat! Were Formed In 1981 In Long Eaton Derbyshire Gary De Banke Guitar Mark Grebby Bass Dave Parsons Voice Paul Walker Drums . The Band Played Extensively In The Nottingham/Derby Area And Were First Available To The Public On The BBC Radio Nottingham Cassette "The Bomb Party" - Put Together By DJ Mark Robson Track Called Jugular Blow Job Known As JBJ On The Cassette . Gary De Banke Left To Join Another Nottingham-Based Outfit The Howdy Boys And Was Replaced By John Allsopp. This Line-Up Recorded A Single Yeah The Dum Dum/Bookface/Biggles Bloodbath Which Became The First Release On The Semi-Legendary Ron Johnson Records Label Ron1 - 1983 . The Label Was Set Up By Dave Parsons And John Allsopp. The Record Was Played A Few Times On The Peel Show And Led To A Second Effort - Splat! EP Bloom Morbius 4 Taxi And A Foolish Crawl . A Foolish Crawl Also Appeared On A Derby Compilation Cassette Called "Derby Bhaji" - Produced By Local Recording Studio Square Dance Studios. "Eve" Was Released On A Hits And Corruption 1 Sampler. "Mistook" Appeared On The Ron Johnson Records Sampler "The First After Epiphany" ZRON21 . The Band Played A Few Gigs Around The Country And A Few Shows Abroad - Including A Show At The Melkweg In Amsterdam That Was Recorded Live By VPRO Radio. The Band Split In 1985 - Mark Grebby Went On To Play Bass For Another Ron Johnson Outfit - The Shrubs - Paul Walker Went Into A Nottingham Folk Rock Band Called Wholesome Fish. John Allsopp Moved To Newark In Nottingham. Dave Parsons Continued To Run Ron Johnson Records Until About 1989 When The Label Finally Succumbed To Financial Pressures And Business Naivety.
