The Fureys Is An Irish Folk Band That Initially Performed And Recorded As The Fureys & Davey Arthur With Family Friend Davey Arthur. The Name Eventually Simplified To The Fureys When Arthur No Longer Performed With Them After 1993 Though He Returned For A Number Of Recordings Until He Had A Stroke In 2014 . Prior To 1976 Two Of The Furey Brothers Toured As A Duo Finbar & Eddie Furey. Meanwhile Their Brother Paul Furey Had Together With Brother George And Family Friend Davey Arthur And Brendan Leeson Been In The Band The Buskers. Both Bands Were Part Of A Successful Tour Through Germany Called The "Irish Folk Festival" First In 1974 Where They Performed As The Furey Brothers And Later As The Furey Family. In The Latter The Brothers Were Joined By Their Father Ted Furey A Famous Fiddler Who Was 73 At That Time. The Fureys & Davey Arthur Had Their Biggest Commercial Success In 1981 With The Release Of The Single "When You Were Sweet Sixteen" Becoming A Worldwide Hit Reaching #14 On The UK Singles Chart #1 On The Irish Singles Chart And #9 On The Australian Singles Chart. The Single "The Green Fields Of France" Also Gave Them An Irish #1 Remaining In The Single Charts For Twenty Eight Weeks. They Also Had Two Top 40 British Albums Called Golden Days And At The End Of The Day. Arthur Left The Band In 1992 Pursuing A Solo Career And Undertook A Number Of Solo Tours. He Later Rejoined Some Of The Original Lineup Of The Fureys And Davey Arthur For A Number Of Tours And Albums. Finbar Furey Left The Band To Begin His Own Solo Career In 1996. The Other Brothers Eddie And George Together With Davey Arthur Continuing Some Touring In Ireland The UK And The European Continent. Paul Furey Died Suddenly In June 2002.
