Artist Biography For The Herb Spectacles

The Herb Spectacles Present A 21st Century Mix Of South American Tijuana And Mariachi Sounds. In The Nineteen-Sixties This Music Was Popularised By Musicians Like Chet Baker Who Did A Lot Of Mariachi Music Recordings And Of Course Herb Alpert Who's Tijuana Brass Made This Musical Style An Instant Worldwide Hit. The Herb Spectacles' Debut Album Contains Many Of Their Own Compositions. Inspired By The Tijuana And Mariachi Sounds The Specs Try To Boost Interest In This Style Once More. The Herb Spectacles Joined In The Autumn Of 1999 Including Three Members Of The Treble Spankers And Two Of The Amsterdam Klezmerband. A Marimba Player And A Percussionist Were Recruted Through An Ad In A Free Advertising Paper. After Only A Few Weeks The First Gigs Were Done In Bars And Cafes Which In The Year 2000 Ultimately Resulted In A Show At The Lowlands Festival. This Started Of The Whole Specs-Circus Of Many A Gig In Such Odd Places As Beach Pavillions Film Festivals And German Frühschoppenparties.
June 2003 Sees The Release Of Their Debut CD "The Incredible World Of The Herb Spectacles" Recorded In 2002/3 With The Current Line-Up Of Two Remaining Spankers Sticksman Philip Ten Bosch Taking Over The Drum Stool Of Frank Sloos Augmented With Illustrious Guests Like Guitarists Don Van Dongen Speed 78 And Roberto Telefono And Trumpeter Manuel De Los Campos.
