Artist Biography For The Starlets

There Must Have Been More Than 10 Groups That Recorded As The Starlets. 1. The Starlets Were A Female Group From New Jersey Formed In 1959 Singing Pop And Doo-Wop. They Recorded The Singles "P.S. I Love You / Where Is My Love Tonight" And "Romeo & Juliet / Listen For A Lonely Tambourine" For The Astro Label In The Early 1960s. Members Went On To Become The Angels. 2. The Starlets Were A 1960s Girl Group That Recorded For The Legendary Chess Label. The Group Started Out As The Lovettes Before Changing To The Gems. Dorothy Hucklebee The Lead Vocal Of The Starlets Was A Constant Member Though Vadine Harris And Then Minnie Riperton Were The Main Voices Of The Earlier Incarnations. 3. The Starlets Were A Soul/R&B Group Formed In Chicago In Illinois In Early 1961. Members Were Jane Hall Maxine Edwards Mickey McKinney And Jeanette Miles. They Released Singles Such As "Better Tell Him No" And "My Last Cry" On Pam Records. They Also Recorded The Song "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman" Originally By The Basin Street Boys From 1946 Which Was Released By The Newtown Label Under The Name Of Patti LaBelle's Group The Blue Belles And Became A Hit Prompting A Legal Case. After Getting Caught Lip-Synching On American Bandstand Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles Were Sued By The Starlets Each Member Received $5 000 In Damages. The Starlets Broke Up Around 1963. 4. The Starlets Were A Los Angeles Based Mid-'60s Girl Group Consisting Of Cathy Sara And Gloria Last Names Unknown . In 1965 They Released A Few Singles Produced By Mike Curb For Tower Records. Their First Single Was "You Won't Even Know Her Name". This Was Followed By "You Don't Love Me" Featuring Dave Allan Of The Arrows On Guitar. The Also Recorded As The Ja-Dettes For Dick Dale's Deltones Label And As The Compacts. 5. Based In Glasgow Belonging Nowhere The Starlets Are A Melancholy Pop Group With Ambitions To Be Cheerful. A Diverse Range Of Influences From The Velvet Underground Via The Go-Betweens And Prefab Sprout To Judy Garland Have All Inspired The Band’s Sound. A Sound That You Can Hear On Their Debut Album "Surely Tomorrow You’ll Feel Blue". Since Its Release In 2002 They’ve Played Gigs Across Scotland Making The Occasional Trip Down South Which Have Included Gigs At The Garage In London Leeds Nottingham And In The City In Manchester.
