The Band's Uniqueness Lies In Its Ability To Re-Event Itself Throughout Different Periods Of Its Relatively Short But Eventful Existence. One Thing However That Has Remained Constant With DEAD ROOSTER Is Exciting Creative Music Expressing And Complimenting Beautiful Contemporary Ukrainian Poetry. One Rainy Fall Day In A Smokey Lviv Cafe Frequented By The Re-Awakened And Restless "bohemian" Scene Consisting Of Artist Writers Musicians Engineers Curious Coffee Sippers Etc. A Handful Of Students Of Various Backgrounds Decided To Form A Musical Group. Initially Playing At Underground Concerts Literally And Figuratively And At Outdoor Street Festivals The Band Soon Developed A Fanatic Following And Was Forced To Climb Onto A Larger Stage. A Performance At The 1991 Chervona Ruta II Music Festival In Zaporizha Ukraine In 1991 Established The Group As Rock Stars Throughout This Country. At This Festival DEAD ROOSTER Received First Prize Out Of Over One Hundred Bands For Its Acoustic Ethnic Flavored Interpretation Of Modern Ukrainian Poetry. At This Point The Band Consisted Of Two Vocalists Two Guitarists One Violin Player One Flautist And Everyone Contributing On Various Homemade Percussion Instruments. Soon After The Festival DEAD ROOSTER Returned To Lviv To Record Their First Album "ETO" And To Shoot A Video For Their Hit "Dog #1". They Toured Extensively In Support Of This Album But Changes Were-A-Brewing.... Exhibiting A New Approach To Sung Poetry DEAD ROOSTER Shifted Their Lineup To Reflect A Less Folky More Electric Sound. Their New Sound A Blend Of Blues Soul And Rock Became An Instant Hit Among Fans Partially Due To The More Energetic Live Performances Its Sprawned. The Band Recorded Its Second Album "DEAD ROOSTER 93" In 1993. Many Songs On This Album Reflect The Band's Unique Sense Of Humor. They Toured With Their New Lineup Taking Part In Numerous Large Festivals Including Ukrainian Youth For Christ And Musicians Against Drugs And Alcohol As Well As Maria-93 Which Is Still Frequently Shown On Ukrainian National Television. In 1994 DEAD ROOSTER A Band Whose Creative Talents Enable Them To Adopt A Number Of Different Sounds Altered Their Lineup Once Again. Always In Touch With Changes In Music Throughout The World They Replaced Their Bassist And Drummer With What Is Arguably The Finest Rhythm Section In Ukraine And Took On A Louder More Complex Sound. They Recorded Their Third Album "Underground Zoo" In 1994. The Album's Songs Are Joined By A Loose Theme Based On The Poetry Of Renown Contemporary Ukrainian Poet Yuri Andrukhovych. They Debuted Their New Album And Its 'carnival Of Noise' Sound With A Show At The Lviv Circus. That Show Was Followed By A Tour Of Poland And Germany Highlighted By A Performance At The Berlin Independence Day Festival. The Members Of DEAD ROOSTER Like All Great Musicians Always Seek New Musical Challenges And Do Not Allow Themselves To Become Predictable And Boring. What Sound Will They Come Up With Next? Who Knows? One Thing That Is Certain Is That Their Listeners Will Always Be Audience To An Entertaining And Insightful Approach To The Art Of Sung Poetry.
