Artist Biography For Do It To Julia

Do It To Julia Is A Four-Piece Indie Folk-Rock Band From Boone North Carolina Where They Began Playing In The Fall Of 2006. The Band Includes Ryan O’Keefe On Vocals And Rhythm Guitar Halli Anderson On Violin And Vocals Alex McWalters On Drums And Matt Rossino On Bass And Vocals. Some Of Their Influences Are Broken Social Scene The Decemberists Bon Iver Sigur Ros And Wilco. In The Winter Of 2007 The Band Signed A Contract With Split Rail Records And Released Their First Full-Length Album Entitled “Archie Carrol" In October 2008. They Are Currently Working On Their Second Album In Asheville NC. It's Projected To Be Released At The Beginning Of The New Year. The Band Originated With Ryan O’Keefe And Alex McWalters. Ryan Is From Prospect Harbor Maine And Brought With Him To Boone A Pure Natural Folk Simplicity Unique To Down-East Maine. Alex Is A Drummer From Atlanta Who Grew Up Playing With Punk Rock And Hardcore Bands. The Two Met Their Freshman Year At Appalachian State University And Became A Duo That Moved Together Through A Few Local Boone Bands Or Just Played Music By Themselves. In The Summer Of 2006 The Two Began Writing Heavily And Decided To Expand. In The Fall Of 2006 They Added Alex Miller On Bass And Halli Anderson On Violin And Vocals. Halli Grew Up Playing “fiddle” And Singing Folk Songs Around Her Hometown Of Hendersonville North Carolina. Alex Miller Came From Charlotte Where He Had Picked Up Bass Playing With A Few Friends. For The Next Five Months The Band Began Writing And Playing Together And Decided Upon The Name "Do It To Julia" After A Quote From The Book 1984 By George Orwell. By Christmas The Band Had Played A Few House Shows And Parties And Felt "ready" To Move Out Of The Garage. They Soon Began Playing Shows Around Boone. They Recorded Their First Three Song Demo At The University's School Of Music In Spring 2007 Matt Rossino Replaced Alex Miller On Bass That Fall. Finally The Band Signed A One Album Contract With School Label Split Rail Records In December. In Turn They Gained Much Attention Within The Boone Music Scene And Had An On-Campus Popular Following At Appalachian State. Their Album Archie Carrol Named After The Road Of The Garage They Practiced In For Two Years Was Release In October 2007. Since Then DITJ Has Moved Down The Mountain To Asheville NC Where They Are Currently Working On Their Second Full-Length Album.
