Karin Hammar Is A Celebrated Jazz Trombonist And Composer From Sweden Born 1974 In The Northern Town Boden In Sweden. As A Solo Artist And Frequent Soloist In Smaller Ensembles She Has Toured The World Including The U.S. Brazil France And South Africa Among Other Places And Has Worked With International Jazz Stars Such As Kenny Werner Tim Hagans Steve Swallow Gary Burton Bob Brookmeyer Maria Schneider And Nils Landgren. Karin Studied At The Royal Conservatory Of Stockholm Between 1994-1999 And Has Freelanced As A Fulltime Musician Since 1997 Receiving Numerous Awards. In 2004 She Was The First Receiver Ever Of The Prestigious Swedish Jazz Award In The Singer Alice Babs’ Name. Karin’s CD “With Friends” Consisting Of Her Original Music Received A Warm Welcome By Swedish Press When It Was Released Fall 2004 . In 2007 The Karin Hammar Quartet Was Formed And Their First CD “Everyday Magic” Was Released In 2009 By German Label Skip Records Including Original Compositions By Hammar. The Quintet Sliding Hammers Which Karin Led Between 1997 And 2008 With Her Sister Mimmi Hammar – Also A Trombonist – Has Released 4 CDs. Besides Smaller Ensembles Karin Has Worked With Several Internationally Acclaimed Big Bands Apart From Most Professional Big Bands In Sweden Such As Jazz Baltica Ensemble With Top Musicians From Northern Europe West Deutche Rundfunk Big Band Norwegian Trondheim Jazz Orchestra And With The South African/Scandinavian World Music Group Jazzmyne. Apart From Playing Jazz She Can Also Frequently Be Heard Playing Salsa Brazilian Music Pop And Soul And Her Trombone Has Appeared On Many Of The Albums Of Swedish Pop Stars Film Tracks And Commercial Jingles. read less
