Pricele$$ Was Born Olujimi Michael Legemah In Elmhurst Queens New York.His Family Moved All Around The Northern Parts Of Queens Before Moving Out To Lakeview Long Island In His Teens.
Picele$$ First Got Involved In Music Back In 7th Grade When His Music Class Teacher Asked His Class To Write A Song In Their Favorite Musical Genre.Pricele$$ Made A Song Called "Midnte Magik" And Also Rapped Under That Name.By The Time He Reached High School He Battled A Local Rapper By The Name Of Sundown.He Beat Sundown In The Battle And Was Introduced To A Grew Of MC's Called The Stray Bullets.After An Impromtu Audition He Was Renamed Machete Because Of His Lyrical Ability To "Cut Through Niggas".He Immediately Went To Work On Some Songs And Also Had A Breakout Verses On The Posse Cuts "Who Is It?" "The Arena" And "A 40 And A Blunt". He Also Dropped The Underground Single "Up The River".After Graduation He Went To Tuskegee University On An AirFoce ROTC Scholarship But Still Wanted To Pursue Music.He DJ'd A Radio Show Called "Tha Cypha" On Campus Radio Station WTEC.At The Behest Of DJ Kid Capri Who Dj's The Homecoming Dance He Transferred To School Back In NY To Pursue His Music Career.He Then Released The Underground Singles "Buttaknifeniggas" And "Niggas Ain't Ready 4 Machete" .He Then Hooked Up With His Cousin R.Rachetz Who At The Time Went By Rambo To Form The Group Desert Men.The 2 Quickly Drew Comparisons To Their Fellow Queens Contemporaries Capone N Noreaga Mobb Deep Mic Geronimo And Royal Flush All Of Which They Were Affiliated With.Desert Men Signed With An Independent Label Which Can't Be Named As Part Of A Court Settlement And Dropped Their Debut Single "Irak Hijak" And "Live Illegal Remix " Which Was A Minor Hit.After Several Postponements From The Label For Their LP "Desert Storm" The Two Parted Ways As A Group In 1999.Still Wanting To Do Music Pricele$$ Recorded But Never Widely Released The Singles "5 Star General" And "Desert Sands" Because Of His Contractual Agreement With The Label.Disillusioned With The Recording Industry He Began Ghostwriting For Other Hip Hop Artists Qand Enrolled In City College.It Was While Pursuing His Degree There He Ran Into Then Up And Coming Hot Rapper Big L.The 2 Would Regularly Exchange Bars But Because Of Big L's Untimely Death They Never Got A Chance To Work Together.In 2005 Pricele$$ Then Going By $Money$ Released An Underground EP Entitled "Get Ya Bars Up!!!" Which Spawned The Underground Hit Singles "Queens Logic" And "Make That Money" Featuring CP Charm.As He Tried To Commercially Release The EP His Former Label Took Him To Court To Impose An Injunction On His EP.After Citing Loopholes That He Was A Minor With No Parental Consent And New York State Statute Of Limitations Pricele$$ Was Freed From His Contract And Renamed Himself To His Current Name Of Pricele$$.He Chose The Name After Seeing A MasterCard Commercial And Because Of 90's Hip Hop Group All City's Song "Priceless" Which Was A Favorite Song Of His And Also Says That The Things He's Done And Have Accomplished In Life Are "Pricele$$".He Then Enlisted Queens Premier Mixtape DJ Superstar Jay To Host His Debut Mixtape After Being Off The Scene For A Few Years Called "Queens Where Amazing Happens".This Was More Of An Album-Styled Mixtape Where He Opted To Instead Make Songs Off Of Current Rappers Beats.These Included The Standouts "Back 2 Miami" Featuring R.Rachetz "Make A Move Patron Time " "Feedback Tabu Remix " "The Rush" And "Straight Outta Northside".He Also Started His Own Independent Label/entertainment Company Sent Up Music Group LLC. read less
