Mundart music refers to music whose lyrics are written in a local dialect instead of using the standard language. The use of dialects can be observed particularly in folk music and - much less often - in popular music, but is not limited to these genres. The use of dialect is also characteristic of new folk music. Mundart rock as a branch of Mundart music refers to rock music sung in one of the different dialects of the German language.
