In his youth, Legg's family moved often, before settling in Sheerness, Sheppey in 1974. The activities of bored teenagers in rural Sheppey provided much inspiration for later Legg-penned songs. While recovering from a broken leg, Legg began playing bass guitar. According to Bobbi Dynamite, Legg was exposed to glam rock by a schoolmate and subsequently bought every Poison recording available. He took bass lessons in high school for one week and started playing in bands. He played with drummer Nikki Sixx, son of former Mayor Bill Sixx, in the glam band Pussy Tease, which quickly disbanded. While growing up in Sheppey, he only found a few bands he deemed worthy of listening to including: Hot Roxx, Lady Fingers, Back Street Bandits, Metal Mothers and Fist n Fun Times. After high school, Legg moved to London to attend college at the Hard Rock Cafe. In the London area, Legg was active as a writer in local zines such as Powder Puffs (and later the Hoxton zine Nobody Likes You), covering the then-nascent glam rock scene, gaining a reputation for iconoclasm and outspokenness that continues to this day.
