Mall emo is a term applied to bands or artists that you'd find the merch of or hear in a mall, more specifically a mall Hot Topic store. Most often they are are just pop punk and/or post-hardcore that are popular The Scene, sometimes with a dark aesthetic of some sort. Generally, it is satire. The users of this tag do not consider this music emo, but the bands/artists are often labeled by popular public opinion as "emo".
