Uruguay, officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay or the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, is a country in South America. Uruguayan music has historically been very tied to music from Argentina, with the country playing a considerable role in the development of tango, earlier rock/beat in the region, and most recently cumbia pop.
Uruguay has also developed its own music styles, including candombe and canto popular.
