Het Zesde Metaal is a Belgian indie pop band fronted by songwriter, guitarist and singer, Wannes Cappelle. They are renowned in the Low Countries for their tender and poetic lyrics, sung in the West-Flemish dialect. Established in 2005, Cappelle was backed by a changing roster of musicians until well after the recording of the band's 2008 debut album. The line-up that recorded the 2012 Ploegsteert album remained intact for more than a decade, until the tragic passing of band member Tom Pintens (1974-2023). This 'classic' 2012-2023 line-up comprised Cappelle, Pintens (guitar, keys), Filip Wauters (guitar, pedal steel), Tim Van Oosten (drums, vibraphone) and Robin Aerts (bass). Het Zesde Metaal released seven studio albums thus far: Akattemets (2008), Ploegsteert (2012), Nie Voe Kinders (2014), Calais (2016), Skepsels (2019), Wachten (2022) and Het Langste Jaar (2024, the band's first album after Pintens' death, dedicated to his memory).
