Dig Ur Grave was originally a side project that solely began from former Swamp Witch member Ryan Conrad. He tracked all the drums, bass, guitar, and vocals at his personal studio located in the small town of Taylorsville, N.C. After a slow but inevitable fallout from Zombie Gutz and Swamp Witch, Conrad began to gradually bring in a few members from there. Conrad first snatched guitarist Preston Barnes(Swamp Witch) to re-record the guitar tracks on Dig Ur Grave’s first EP “Apocalipsis”. This duo was possibly the easiest transition from Swamp Witch due to their like-minded approach towards this subtle and quite angry genre of Hardcore. Preston noted “This EP was one of the more comfortable projects I have been involved with. I really feel a connection with this style and finally feel the freedom to write what really seems to flow between Conrad and I.” Conrad decided to try something different and has stepped out of his guitar bubble and into the front man world for “Apocalipsis.” This led to giving Preston full responsibility of guitars. A two man job for one. Shortly after Conrad and Preston brought in Ryan Hefner on drums and Richard Kelly on bass followed their departure. Hefner and Richard have been the most dedicated musicians through thick and thin. 8+ years of sweat and blood was what these guys sacrificed. Due to the scene constantly evolving away from their taste and their daily lives getting in the way, Rich and Hef respectfully stepped down. Conrad and Preston did not give up what really felt like a giant stride forward in hardcore music. They first began soul searching for a second guitarist and a bassist. Quickly they found A Darker Shade of Scarlet's guitarist, David Gantt and bassist Spencer Bryant. They immediately filled the shoes for Dig Ur Grave. They began to book shows in hopes to find a drummer but kept striking out. This is when the group collectively decided to evolve more and go without a drummer. Conrad noted: "Thanks to the 21st century, technology allows us to bring music to the table without a drummer. The studio drum tracks transfer right over to the front p.a. If you closed your eyes, you would have no clue we didn't have a drummer on stage. It's already mixed and flawless. We don't foresee bringing in a drummer any time soon. It just works for us. It makes us unique even though Uncle Bob drives a combine pretty much revolutionized this idea." Dig Ur Grave is preparing to track the predecessor to their first lp "Vagabond" titled "Spectrum". This will be the second full length release excluding their first ep in early 2011 and more recent split with Charlotte's finest "Actions Louder Than Words" titled "Straight Outta Compilation"-Dec. '11. "Spectrum" is expected to release in late 2012 as no definitive date is set at the moment. The upcoming release will be the first collaboration with a solid and set-in-stone lineup - Conrad, Presto, Stew, Aron, Michael, and Devon. The new album will be tracked at lead vocalist's recording studio. Expect strange twists of all genres of music on "Spectrum" and a "f*@k you" attitude throughout. Conrad noted "We are not the most talented musicians out there. Nor do we try to blow your mind with arpeggios and mario dungeon sweeps. The rest of the death metal scene carries that torch. Spectrum is about versatility. It is about letting go of what you expect from us and showing you pieces of who we are in the music. Whether it be lyrics or the music, we thrive on experimenting with crazy mixes of heavy elements with flat-out blues and rock n' roll. If I and the rest of the band, fails to bang our heads to it or I don't get the hair on the back of my neck to stand up at a breakdown, it gets shit canned on the spot. We are up to 17 songs already in the studio. We got choices. Even If we have a handful of fans, they are what it is all about. We don't have anything to prove to anybody else. Nor do we put ourselves up on some f&%king pedestal. You can come up to me and we'll talk at a show. Share a beer with me. You won't catch me hiding out in the van until our time to play comes up." There is also talks of "Straight Outta Compilation II" split to be released this summer before their lp "Spectrum" is released. Be on the lookout for that as well.
