La Vela Puerca is one of Uruguay's most famous rock bands. It was founded in 1995 in Montevideo, Uruguay. Protagonist of the second wave of new Uruguayan rock of the late nineties, they are one of the most popular bands in the country. They were among the first to achieve international audiences. Its founders were Sebastián Teysera (lead vocals, frontman and main songwriter), Nicolás Lieutier (bass guitar) and Santiago Butler (guitar) - all three are still part of the band today.

La Vela Puerca is one of Uruguay's most famous rock bands. It was founded in 1995 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The band's first appearance as La Vela Puerca was in a Montevidean street party outside of the bar El Tigre in December 24, 1995. By then, several new members had already joined in. In 1996, frontman Sebastián Teysera presented a recording of the band's first performance, which was recorded by a friend, to a contest. However, the rest of the band did not become aware of this until they found out they were among the twenty finalists. A month later, they received a phone call saying they had won, and with this they were given 80 hours worth of recording, a guitar and an amplifier, which would be vital for their debut album, Deskarado. La Vela Puerca has released eight albums, one EP, and four live albums: Deskarado (1998) (re-recorded and re-released as La Vela Puerca (1999)), De Bichos y Flores (2001), A Contraluz (2004), El Impulso (2007), Normalmente Anormal (2009 Live), Piel Y Hueso (2011), Pasaje Salvo (2013 EP), Uno Para Todos (2014 Live), Érase (2014), 20 Años: Festejar Para Sobrevivir (2017 Live), Destilar (2018), Discopático (2022), Vivo A Contraluz (2004 - 2024) (2024 Live) All of the bands albums have been certified Gold in Uruguay. Moreover, A Contraluz has been certified 2x Platinum, Normalmente Anormal has recieved a 3x Platinum DVD in its triple edition (CD+DVD), and 2x Platinum in its double edition, Piel y Hueso achieved 2x Platinum, Uno Para Todos and Érase have also been certified Platinum. They have also recieved numerous Graffiti Awards, including: Artist of the Year (2003 and 2014), Best Live Album (in 2010 for Normalmente Anormal and in 2015 for Uno Para Todos), and Best Song of the Year (2003 for El Viejo and in 2012 for La Teoría). The band takes elements from alternative rock, hard rock, ska, punk rock, reggae, and Uruguayan folk music, creating a unique sound.
