The Radials are a high energy Americana and Roots Rock band from Greensboro, North Carolina. What started as an informal project in early 2007 quickly blossomed into a full-blown collaboration between Stephen Corbett and Shawn Patch. As the primary songwriters, they are responsible for lyrics, melodies, and basic arrangements. Tom Beardslee (lap steel, mandolin and backing vocals), Aaron Cummings (drums and backing vocals) and Rodney Owen (bass and backing vocals) fill out the full roster. The Radials' songs run the gamut of Roots music from honky tonk to soul, blues to rock & roll, and folk to reggae - oftentimes during the course of one song. In order to help themselves achieve their artistic visions, they frequently solicit additional musicians to add textural and rhythmic sounds and are always open to new ideas. Stephen Corbett has developed a keen sense of music appreciation that continues to inspire his writing and playing. Dating back to his childhood days, he has felt a calling from the same Lost Highway traveled by Hank Williams and Robert Johnson, and has spent the majority of his life with music as his only refuge. As the primary lyricist, he focuses on timeless themes such as loss, longing, and travel. His unique voice is a throwback to the classic days of southern soul and honky tonk, and adds a haunting element to many of his songs. Shawn Patch has been playing guitar and writing songs for more than 20 years. Growing up in small town Vermont in the 1970s meant long winters, no cable television and no internet. To compensate, his family spent hours listening to music. At an early age his parents exposed him to Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Jethro Tull, which formed the basis for his later interests. As a musician today, Patch is a huge fan of singer/songwriters, harmony vocals, and soulful melodies. He works hard to convey these influences in his own work with careful attention to simplicity, structure, and feel. His tasteful fills and stinging leads seem to emanate from somewhere deep within the soul of American music.
